This describes Herschkowitz:
Rosner's Domain: Minister Herschkowitz is borderline stupid
Posted by SHMUEL ROSNER
This is an inconvenient truth, but Minister Daniel Herschkowitz of the Habayit Hayehudi Party - as scientifically brilliant as he might be - is borderline stupid. Here's what he said, as quoted by my colleague Gil Hoffman:
"I am disappointed in Obama's policies," Herschkowitz said. "Some of the steps he has taken, like giving a medal to Mary Robinson, are borderline anti-Semitic. Israel is an independent state. Relations with the US are important, but relations must go both ways. I don't know if Obama understands it, but most Americans believe that Israel is their only anchor in the Middle East."
And here's why such things tell us more about Herschkowitz than about President Obama:
1. Disappointment is permissible, but calling the President of the US names - calling him an anti-Semite! (adding "borderline" is not an excuse) - is quite mad. Herschkowitz didn't yet understand that he is a Minister, with responsibilities. Not a nut-case pundit.
2. The Mary Robinson affair was indeed disappointing, but the label of anti-Semitism should be saved for more significant occasions, and for clear-cut cases. Otherwise, it becomes a used, tired, label and loses its meaning.
3. Does Herschkowitz really think he has better understanding of the politics of America than the man who just amazed the world by winning the Presidential election? Does he really think he knows better than Obama what Americans believe?
4. If Herschkowitz wants Americans to remain supportive of Israel, one way to do it is not to insult their President in such way. As he says: "relations must go both ways".
5. He should apologize. Not tomorrow - today.
6. And his Party should also apologize. For picking this unfit man to be a political leader. People tell me he's an honest, serious, generous, smart person. Evidently, that's hardly enough for a Party leader, or a Minister.
