Dana Perino, Former White House Press Secretary:
I haven't spoken to the Senator, but I think everyone has gotten carried away. Couldn't it be that he simply and bluntly said in 4 words what the political analysts, editorial boards and columnists have been saying the last couple of weeks? While I don't believe that not passing healthcare reform means the President won't be able to pass anything else, that surely is how others are seeing it. I was also surprised that the President referred to the comment in his opening statement the other night - it sounded like something from the campaign trail and unnecessarily focused on a negative when people across America are looking to the White House to rise above and lead a successful reform effort. That success, for now, seems out of reach.
